Faith and Worship
Deepening faith and encouraging community
Making Worship Accessible
One of the strengths of Mustard Seed School is making faith and worship accessible to children. Each are woven into the fabric of day-to-day life at school. Students' life and learning are rooted in the richness of knowing that God loves them, understands them and that they belong to God. God created a world of goodness and beauty and gave people, made in God’s image, the task of tending to it. We recognize also that our world is flawed, as are we, but by grace we aim for God’s ultimate vision of wholeness and harmony and restoration. It is this vision that empowers our board, motivates our teachers and inspires our students to become agents of positive change in our world.
Religious education at the school is a multifaceted program encompassing daily worship, traditional and multicultural celebrations, prayer, opportunities for service, and study of the Bible. The school uses scripture to explore themes of community, peace, joy, love and forgiveness as children grow and mature.
Younger students gather in the morning and older students gather in the afternoon to sing, pray, hear God's word and reflect together as a school community. Staff members take turns leading the explorations of themes that aim to deepen faith and encourage community. Some of the recent themes have been Hospitality, Make a Joyful Noise, Footsteps of a Community on The Way, and Saints Walking with God. The overarching theme for 2009-2010 school year is Vision. Specific worship themes include:
- The Image of God
- The Prayer of Saint Francis
- Visionary Saints
- Jesse Tree
- Visions of Heaven
- Blind, but Now I See
- Resurrection Appearances
- Parables, the Kingdom of God
- Holy Spirit: Acts
Families are always welcome to join our students, faculty, and staff at Lower School worship at 8:30 AM and at specific school celebrations at the Upper School worship at 11:00 AM.
More on Worship
