Need food for your family? Or want to help a neighbor in need? Here’s what you need to know.

Below are some resources for families who need assistance with meals and groceries.

And if you’re looking for a place to donate to help our neighbors in need, you’ll find links for donations below. Pastor Jessica Lambert from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (the Sharing Place food ministry) says, “Financial donations are badly needed so we can purchase food from the Community Food Bank and also get grocery store gift cards.”

The Sharing Place: St. Paul’s Lutheran Jersey City

Groceries are distributed the 3rd Saturday of the month from 8AM until 12PM at 440-448 Hoboken Avenue.(April 18th is the next distribution date) Please bring ID and any documentation showing enrolled programs (such as SNAP, SSDI, SSI, etc.) NO ONE IS TURNED AWAY.

Old Bergen Church Food Pantry

Old Bergen Church on Highland Ave. and Bergen Ave. has a food pantry one on the last Saturday of the month from 9-noon. To obtain food, one must have a referral from any of the recognized agencies in Jersey City, NJ. All clients must bring proof of identification and their social security number. To receive an extra (“family”) bag, parents must provide proof such as birth certificates or social security cards of their children.

St. John’s Lutheran Church

St. John’s Lutheran Church 155 North St. (Summit Ave.)  has a pantry on the 2nd Saturday of the month. from 10am-12:30.

Nutrition programs for students:

Hoboken

In a letter from Hoboken Public School District, Superintendent Dr. Johnson notes that the “Grab & Go” breakfast and lunch program will continue each week, including the week of Spring Break (April 10-17). This program has been expanded FOR ALL FAMILIES IN NEED OF MEAL SERVICE, whether or not your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Meal service continues to be available from 8:30-10:30am at the 9th Street side door of the Hoboken High School cafeteria, between Clinton and Grand Streets.

Jersey City

All Jersey City children* under the age of 18, regardless of the school they attend, can pick up FREE MEALS at a school nearest their home Between 9:00 A.M. and 12:00 Noon. More information here.

Union City

The Union City nutrition program is only for students registered in Union City schools. Students have to show an ID. More information here. According to the BOE website, students receive weekly food packages, which can be picked up every Tuesday at their schools.

Weehawken

Weehawken Township School District is still making lunch food service available to
students, if they are in need of it, in the event of building closures. Cold lunch
sandwiches will be made available between the hours of 11:30am – 12:30pm at various
locations around the town at ‘grab-and-go’ kiosks. These kiosks are only available to
Weehawken Township School District students.
