A Day in the Life

June 17, 2020 | Clara Buckley

Have you wondered what your child does all morning at school? Why are they so tired by the time they come home?

At our Welcome Back Night, you received a schedule of a typical day in the Rivers Class. Here’s some photos of what that looks like now your child is in school.

8:10 Doors Open

8:30 Worship

8:50 Bathroom

9:00 Park

9:40 Bathroom

9:50 Snack, followed by independent reading

10:00 Rhymes and chants / Music class

10:15 Meeting: Activity introduction

10:20 Activity time: There are three teacher-led activities. Currently these are collage, drama, and paint. When finished at the teacher activity, children play independently at stations around the room.

11:20 Singing

11:30 Story and prayer

11:45 Dismissal

I hope seeing this gives you a fuller understanding of your child’s morning and maybe some talking points for conversation with your child.

Clara Buckley

Preschool Art Specialist; Middle School Art

Clara Buckley’s teaching spans the ages of Mustard Seed School, from the youngest students in the preschool to students in the graduating class. She’s found many similarities between teaching three-year-olds and thirteen-year-olds!

As an art teacher who never enjoyed drawing, Ms Buckley’s hope is that each child she teaches discovers a way to create art that they enjoy, whether it be sculpture, printing, textiles, architectural drawing, or collage.

Ms. Buckley loves living in Jersey City, a place whose diversity and welcome for immigrants reflects her own family experience. When planning future travel destinations, art, food, and time with family are featured items on her list.
