We began our study of South Africa by learning about different eco-regions and the animals that call it home. Each child choose an animal to paint, sculpt, and research. The children are nearing the end of their culminating project, a nonfiction writing piece.
Children began individual research by logging in to Seesaw and watching a video about their animal that was assigned to each of them. They drew what they learned.
Next we asked our reading buddies for a little help with research! Our buddies helped us by reading and recording information in a graphic organizer.
Children are now in the rough draft writing phase! They have a check list to follow to make sure they include important facts about their animal.
As children finish their books, they will begin to “fancy up” their writing by fixing any errors, adding more information, and finally adding a front and back cover and titling their book!
They will teach their classmates about their South African animal and take questions or comments on their research. They are the expert!
