Giving Thanks

June 16, 2022 | Nancy Aberg

On Tuesday we delivered a garland of hand painted cards with messages of thanks for the first responders at the Clinton Street firehouse.

Before we started this project, way back in April, some of our younger students were not certain what, or who, a first responder is.  Our older students in second and third grade shared their ideas:  firefighters, doctors, ambulance people and police officers.

From there the whole group discussion was lively and expansive.  Some children mentioned their moms and dads were first responders.  One student said lifeguards.  Then a kindergarten student raised a quiet hand, and patiently waited.  When it was her turn to share she said, “God is the first responder.”

We all agreed that all of the above is true!
