MAP Growth Testing is on the Horizon

September 21, 2022 | Shakeh Tashjian

You may have noticed that students in grades 4 – 8 will be taking the MAP Growth test the week of October 11, 2022.

At Mustard Seed, we recognize that achievement is not the only dimension along which progress should be measured. As the name implies, the MAP Growth test gives parents, students, and teachers more information to set learning goals and how to individualize instruction to achieve those goals.

The MAP Growth test is an online, adaptive untimed test, three important characteristics that allow for an accurate snapshot of your child’s performance in math and reading. The report you receive will look like this:

Our teachers will receive more detailed information about specific learning outcomes and areas of strength and focus for each student. Additionally, we consider information like how much time they used to complete the test and what percent of the questions may have been guessed. In combination with teachers’ knowledge of each child’s progress in class and parents’ knowledge about their children, the picture is quite robust and clear.

Next week, teachers will be conducting practice tests and familiarizing students with the features, tools, and format of the MAP Growth test. During the week of October 11, students will take the test in the morning and continue with their schedules the rest of the day. Nothing special must be done, but reminding your children to be hydrated, rested, and relaxed is always helpful.
