Our Starry Night

February 8, 2023 | Bridget O'Dowd

Last week, children began studying Starry Night by Van Gogh. After working on a collaborative piece inspired by the famous painting, children where taken by Van Gogh’s village. Children are now working on their own version of Starry Night that includes their own view, New York City. To prepare to add this to their painting, we took a trip to the waterfront and braved the cold to draw they skyline. Children will use their drawing to cut out buildings for their paintings.

We even got some time to play after we were finished drawing.

The Starry Nights  are coming together in the Studio. Check out the children’s work on display in the hallway and classroom! (More coming soon!)

Ms. O’Dowd came to Mustard Seed in 2017, after moving to Hoboken in 2016. She found a school and a community all in one package at Mustard Seed! She’s delighted to be a part of the kindergarten team and loves to read and share in story with students. Her favorite moment of the day is during a good read aloud, when she looks out and sees the faces of children showing empathy and emotion in response to the story. Ms. O’Dowd’s hobbies include exploring new neighborhoods, watching BBC documentaries, traveling to visit family, and eating her way through New York City.
