Welcome back to school! The children noticed changes in the classroom – our Advent wreath and Jesse tree have gone, and the library has many new books.
The children delighted to see the three books given by the three wise men. We opened their gift on a Zoom call so this was the first time we’d seen the books in person. We began looking through the stories right away.
One of the library books told our worship story for this week, Jonah and the whale. This story was also available to retell with the worship basket. Experiencing the worship story in many different ways helps build the children’s memory of the story. When working with blocks, one child said his structure looked like the city of Nineveh!
Before Christmas we introduced a balance toy to the room. To encourage the children to explore this toy further, and persevere through the challenge, we added a book about balance to the library.
At the close of the morning, our read aloud was Clementine’s Winter Wardrobe by Kate Spohn. This book introduced new vocabulary words like wardrobe, long johns, and jumper. The children agreed they had all the clothing needed for today’s wintery weather, just like Clementine.
