First graders have jumped into a new study in math: subtraction! Like many of our studies, this involved learning some new games.
The first game was “One or Two Less”. Students flip over a card (1-10) and can cover up any number on their board that is one or two less than the number on the card. They try to get 6 in a row or even cover the whole board!
The next game was an old game with new rules! “5-in-a-row subtraction” involves rolling two dice, one with numbers 1-6 and another with numbers 7-12. Then you subtract the smaller number from the bigger and that’s what you cover up on your board:
Finally we learned “Roll and Record Subtraction”. It has the same rules as “5-in-a-row” but a different game board. To win, you try to fill one number up to the top of the board!
