Walking Trip to Ma’s

October 13, 2021 | Bridget O'Dowd

The Kindergarten kicked off their seed study last week by opening up an apple and discovering the star of seeds inside. We wanted to find out what other foods contained seeds, so we walked to Ma’s Gourmet Market to purchase some items to investigate.

Each child picked out a piece of fruit or other produce to bring back to our class!
Many fruits waited to be opened and seeds to be collected.

Each day, the kindergarten will cut an item open to examine the seed inside.

The Kindergarten studies seeds to enhance their descriptive language and further develop their ability to recognize distinctive attributes of various seeds. They will compare and contrast seeds as a teacher asks specific questions, “What does the seed look like?” “How does it feel?” “Which seed is bigger?” We are continuing to discover new seeds everyday! It is exciting to find out that we eat seeds and they don’t grow inside of us!
