In the preschool the children have been learning how to build structures.
One structure that is fun to build is a castle. The first part of the process is to draw both the inside and outside and the people who are in it. Children also used collage to represent the front of the castle and different ways to enter. The children did their research by looking in books and pictures. When they were looking inside the castle they focused on the throne room, bedroom, state room, and dining rooms. When they looked at the outside of the castle they focused on the towers, drawbridge, and walls.
The children were also able to hear from two guest speakers who have been in real castles in Europe!
Yet another way children experienced the castle was by building them with hollow blocks in Drama. They had fun dressing up as a royal family while playing and learning.
